Fortune Fish

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend Back to School Night, it was nice to meet you. We had a very productive first week and I know the rest of the year will be just as productive for us. Yesterday in all of my classes we started our investigation of the Scientific Method. As part of this unit, students received a "Fortune Fish." This small, thin piece of plastic has the ability to bend when it is held in a person's hand. Like all good toys, the fish has a scientific principle that causes its movement. Students will use their knowledge of the Scientific Method to create an experiment that tests one variable they think causes the fish to move. Students need to choose ONE variable and test it four times. If they find that their variable does not cause the fish's movement, that is okay.

Finally, the experiment needs to be written up in a creative manner. Students may choose their own method for conveying the results (posters, PowerPoint, videos, etc.) The Fortune Fish Project is due Friday, September 7th.

Don't panic if you are still confused, we will talk more about the report together when we return to class.

Have a great weekend and I will see you on Wednesday!
